Software

Desktop/Laptop

Adium – A universal IM client. It works with Lotus Sametime, so you know it’s pretty robust. Very easy to set up.
TextExpander – saves a tremendous amount of repetitive typing
TotalFinder – a great enhancement to Finder on Mac OS X

Mobile Devices

Convert – Handy anything-to-anything unit calculator

Cross-platform

Evernote – I rely heavily on Evernote for ALL of my note-taking. I still hand write some things in a journal when completely unplugged or when taking notes on a phone call, but Evernote has helped me go almost completely paperless. Really. I use Evernote on my desktop, laptops (Mac and PC), iPad, iPhone, and web browsers.
